Divock: I definitely felt the love from the fans
Divock Origi has revealed he enjoyed the reaction from Liverpool supporters - and one fan in particular - following his goal against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
The Belgian forward came off the bench in the second half to fire in Liverpool’s fourth goal of a 6-0 rout before taking his jubilant celebrations towards the visiting Kopites at Villa Park.
However, the 20-year-old may have experienced more than he anticipated when made his way into the stand where the travellers were based.
One person shared the love on Valentine’s Day and celebrated his goal by giving Origi a kiss.
But the striker was more than happy to share his joy with the fans, insisting his actions were to reward them for their backing.
“Let’s say he was emotional!” Origi told Liverpoolfc.com. “I could feel the love, definitely.
“I turned and the first thing I saw was the fans. They were so happy and I wanted to celebrate with them.
“I think maybe on Valentine’s Day they were a little bit more emotional so I had some kisses, but it was nice to see.
“I think the supporters of Liverpool are very passionate and for us to be able to give something back to them is wonderful. I think it’s a big plus for the club also.”
Origi replaced fellow goalscorer Daniel Sturridge in the 62nd minute and found the back of the net within 37 seconds of coming on.
The Belgian international took the words of Jürgen Klopp fully on board and completed a well-worked move with a clinical finish.
He added: “I came on and the coach asked me to play on my qualities and go behind defenders and just propose solutions.
“Philippe [Coutinho] had the ball and he passed a wonderful ball, then I used my qualities and pace.
“I went in front of the first defender and I saw the ’keeper anticipate on the right a little bit and I chose the other side.”
The Reds were rampant in the Barclays Premier League clash, with all six goals coming from different players, and Origi now believes the convincing win can kick-start a good run of form.
“I think the score says it all,” he said. “We had a good game, we enjoyed the game and you could see players in different positions scoring and that’s always nice for the team and the confidence.
“We all had a good feeling. Even before [the game] I had an interview and I told them that I’ve seen positive things in this group and for the rest of the season also. I think this could be the start of something nice.”
