Kolo Toure says Liverpool must stamp their authority upon tonight's clash with Leicester City early on in order to disrupt the league leaders' rhythm.

The Reds are one of just two sides to have beaten the Foxes in the Barclays Premier League this term, having claimed a 1-0 success at Anfield on Boxing Day.

That fixture marked the first time Claudio Ranieri's team had failed to score in the league since May 2015, with Toure insisting that a strong start was key to that shut-out.

And the Ivorian does not want to give the likes of in-form duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez a sniff at the King Power Stadium.

"It's very important to show them from the first challenge, the first minute, today will not be their day," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"That's what we did last time we played against them at home. This game is at their place and we know they will have the fans with them, it's a different approach.

"But we want the three points and we will fight for them."

Leicester have been the surprise package of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign, and have shown little sign of falling away in the second part of the season.

Toure believes the shock leaders fully deserve their position and reiterated the need to defend well in order to slow their charge.

"They're a good team, very well organised. They've got strength in the team, very good strikers, a good goalkeeper, and in the middle they're really strong with strong defenders as well," he added.

"It's a tough team and for me they are one of the best teams in the Premier League right now. We need to admit that and respect that.

"That's why we go there and play against, for me, the best team right now in the country and we need to try to beat them.

"[On Boxing Day] I think we defended very, very well. They have good strikers and as a team they defend very well, they're well organised.

"[But] when we scored our goal, we defended very well. Defending against this team is very important."

The centre-back also resisted the temptation to set out any aims for the final 15 league fixtures of the season, underlining the importance of taking things game by game.

"We just need to fight for every single game," he insisted. "Every point lost is very bad and we need to just focus on the day.

"We give everything we've got, we fight for every ball, try to win that, and think about the next one.

"We can't look at the 15 games coming, just take it game by game and give 100 per cent on the day."
