Following the news that Liverpool will take on FC Augsburg in the last 32 of the Europa League, here are 10 things you might not know about the German outfit…

This will be the first ever meeting between Liverpool and FC Augsburg.

Former Red Karl-Heinz Riedle started his career with FC Augsburg.

The German outfit qualified for the last 32 after finishing second in Group L behind group winners Athletic Bilbao of Spain. They beat FK Partizan 3-1 away from home in their final game to clinch the runners-up spot.

Augsburg qualified for the Europa League after finishing fifth in the Bundesliga last season – their best ever top flight finish.

Former Arsenal stopper Alex Manninger, now 38 years of age, is in the Augsburg squad. Meanwhile, their South Korea international striker, Ji-Dong Won, had a spell in the Premier League with Sunderland.

Their main threat is likely to come from Raul Bobadilla who scored for Young Boys against Liverpool at Anfield in 2012.

Their goalkeeper Marwin Hitz scored a dramatic stoppage time equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen back in February.

Their head coach is Markus Weinzierl who has been in charge since 2012. In May 2015 he celebrated his 100th game in charge of the club with a win over Bayern Munich. Bayern saw former Red Pepe Reina sent off when he conceded a penalty.

Augsburg currently sit in 13th position in the Bundesliga table with 16 points from the same number of league matches so far this season.

Augsburg play at the WWK ARENA which has a capacity of 30,660. It opened in 2009.
