Philippe Coutinho struck twice and Roberto Firmino was also on target as Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 in a practice match at Melwood on Friday afternoon.

The Brazilian pair were joined by the likes of Lucas Leiva, Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Joao Carlos Teixeira in the starting line-up, while their compatriot, Allan Rodrigues de Souza, was also given a run out.

In front of the watching Jürgen Klopp, Coutinho opened the scoring at the club’s training facility after just eight minutes – and the Reds’ advantage was doubled when Firmino struck soon after to give them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Wolves netted twice in the early stages of the second period to level the scoreline up; however, Coutinho had the decisive say, grabbing the winner.

Liverpool: George, Alexander-Arnold, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Lucas, Allan, Teixeira, Coutinho, Firmino, Sinclair. Subs used: Woodburn, Ojo, Dunn, Whelan, Ejaria, Canos, Kane, Cleary, Maguire, Phillips.
