Liverpool midfielder James Milner has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury, the Football Association have confirmed.

The 29-year-old was included in Roy Hodgson's selection for the friendly meetings with Spain and France, but his availability was thrown into doubt after he missed Liverpool's defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday.

The FA have now revealed that the midfielder's fitness issues mean he will not add to his 57 caps during the international break.

Reds duo Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne remain in the squad and will hope to feature against Spain at the Estadio Jose Rico Perez in Alicante on Friday.
