Liverpool Football Club was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Bobby Campbell, aged 78.

Campbell played 25 games for the Reds and scored two goals, featuring under Bill Shankly after the Scot took the helm in December 1959.

He departed Anfield in 1961 and went on to represent Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth and Aldershot before injury ended his playing career.

A switch to management followed, with Campbell cutting his teeth at Fulham before spells in charge of Portsmouth and Chelsea, plus two separate tenures in Kuwait.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Bobby's family and friends at this sad time.
