Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Jordan Henderson will return to training on Friday, while Daniel Sturridge is continuing to work his way towards a comeback.

Henderson has not figured for the Reds since the 1-0 victory over Bournemouth last month due to a heel injury and earlier this week flew to the United States for further treatment on the knock.

Sturridge, meanwhile, began full training last week after being sidelined since April due to a hip problem.

Rodgers told his pre-Norwich press conference: “Jordan will train today, so we’ll see how he comes through that. He’s been away and had some work done on his foot, so hopefully all will be well with that but we’ll assess it over the next 48 hours.

“Daniel has been training with the team for over a week or so, so again we’ll assess him to see where he’s at in relation to the game.”

He added: “They’re both important players. Daniel has been out for a long time, so a player who can get you 25-plus goals in a season is someone who is going to be missed for sure.

“Jordan’s impact and status within the team has grown within my time here, so when you don’t have players of that calibre available to your squad, of course it will have an impact.”

Henderson has missed Liverpool’s last four outings, but Rodgers is hopeful the treatment he’s received will ensure he puts his early-season injury disappointment behind him.

“I’m sure it was a little frustrating for him because apart from an early period in his career at Sunderland, he’s never had this length of time out,” said the boss.

“He’s been champing at the bit to get playing and training again, but he knows he also needed to get this injury right.

“He’s gone away to a specialist in America, we’re trying to give our players the best possible opportunities to stay fit, and now we’ll see on his return how that has gone.”

Elsewhere, Joe Allen has returned to training after a hamstring injury sustained during the pre-season friendly with Swindon Town ruled him out of the opening weeks of 2015-16.

Rodgers said: “Joe Allen is also back fit. People never really mention him – he might not score or create as many goals as other players, but there are players like him that are very, very valuable to teams because they make them play.

“His courage to get on the ball and make other players play is very important. Players like Joe coming back will be vital for us as well.

“Young Jon Flanagan will be back in the future as well – he’s a player that was key to us when we were performing well.”

Rodgers also offered an update on Kolo Toure’s condition after he limped out of the first half of Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Bordeaux in France following an accidental collision with Simon Mignolet.

“He had a real painful leg injury,” he explained. “He clashed with Simon and had a dead leg. Sometimes they can take a couple of days to heal, so we’ll see how he is after tomorrow’s session.”
