Simon Mignolet has revealed what the full-time words he exchanged with Arsenal counterpart Petr Cech were as the goalkeepers showed their respect for each other following Liverpool’s goalless Emirates draw.

The custodians shared an embrace at the final whistle after a game in which both were required to make fine saves to ensure the spoils were shared.

Mignolet said: “He asked me why I didn’t let one in, and I said the same to him!

“The important thing was we [Liverpool] put in a great performance. Everybody did their jobs really well again and we didn’t give much away.

“The defenders and the entire 11 did their jobs at set pieces, so we’re pleased with that and we have to keep it going.”

The result ensured Liverpool are yet to concede a goal in 2015-16 as they maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Mignolet added: “When you come away to the Emirates, you know it’s going to be tough. We fought well, created some chances and could have won the game.

“Everyone is pleased with the performance and again we kept a clean sheet, so we go forwards.

“We have a home game next week before the international break, so if we win that, we’ll have had a great start to the season.”
