Alberto Moreno's application in training and contribution during the latter stages of the victory over Bournemouth showed the kind of response sought by Brendan Rodgers.

The Spaniard was introduced for the final 10 minutes of the Anfield encounter, to provide additional cover along the left in front of summer signing Joe Gomez, who has begun the campaign in the left-back spot.

Moreno's energy and work-rate helped the Reds preserve their 1-0 advantage against the Cherries and claim a second straight win to start the season.

Rodgers said: “Alberto has trained very well.

“He understands the reasons why he’s not in the team at this moment, but he, like all the other players, it was very important for me to acknowledge to them that it will be difficult between now and the international break, especially if the team is winning.

“But there are going to be opportunities for players this season, and there are opportunities every single day in training.

“And Alberto has trained really, really well, with no drop-off in his enthusiasm. He has quality and knows the areas where we want to help him improve in.

“Then when he plays or comes on in the game, he can make a contribution, and I thought he did that very well.”

Speaking at his pre-match press conference before Monday’s trip to Arsenal, the manager also discussed the role of another individual in the squad – Jordan Rossiter.

Asked if the midfielder and any of his young teammates could be heading out on loan before the transfer window closes, Rodgers explained why there will actually be chances here for the Scouser.

“I’m sure one or two of them will probably go out, but we have got the Europa League and cup games,” added the boss.

“Jordan Rossiter is a young boy who has moved up here now to be in the first-team changing room. He’s a really valuable player for our squad.

“At such a young age he’s got great maturity and I can see him as being one that will be staying here.”
