Christian Benteke was thrilled by the experience of scoring a winning goal in front of the Kop and revealed the feeling was a major attraction for joining Liverpool.

The Belgium international made his first home appearance for the Reds against Bournemouth as they sought a second Barclays Premier League victory.

He made the decisive impact too, prodding home at the back post from Jordan Henderson’s sweeping cross to settle the contest and claim three points.

Benteke was equally pleased by his new team keeping a clean sheet, with an unblemished defensive record on the board two matches into the campaign.

“That’s why I came here – the support was massive tonight and they helped us,” he told Liverpoolfc.com of the fans.

“Now we have six points and we want to keep going and work hard.

“It was important for me on my debut at Anfield to score and help the team win.

“I’m very happy to have scored tonight and helped the team take three points. But the more important thing tonight was the clean sheet and the three points.”
