Steven Gerrard is likely to lock horns with Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after England and Uruguay were drawn together in Group D.

The draw, which took place this evening in Costa do Sauipe, lined the two sides up against Italy and Costa Rica at next year's tournament.

Roy Hodgson's Three Lions will open their campaign with a clash against four-time World Cup winners Italy in Manaus on June 15.

Next up will be Uruguay in Sao Paolo on June 19 before Costa Rica beckon in Belo Horizonte five days later.

Elsewhere, Liverpool stars learned their fate, starting with Brazilians Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho, who saw their country drawn alongside Mexico, Cameroon and Croatia in Group A.

Kolo Toure's Ivory Coast were placed in Group C along with Colombia, Japan and Greece.

Mamadou Sakho, who fired France to the tournament during a play-off win over Ukraine in November, saw his side land Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras in Group E.

Liverpool's Nigerian loanee Victor Moses will face Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F, while Simon Mignolet's Belgium will go up against Algeria, South Korea and Russia in Group H.

Meanwhile, Brad Jones and Australia face the daunting prospect of Pepe Reina's Spain, Chile and Netherlands in Group B.
