Local children from three Anfield primary schools got the chance to meet Liverpool legend Ian Rush at the FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.

Pupils from New Park Primary School, Pinehurst Primary School and St Margaret’s Anfield CE Primary School enjoyed the game from an executive box in the Main Stand.

Before kick-off, the children had the opportunity to have a chat with Rush, the club’s all-time record goalscorer, who popped in to say hello.

The schools were invited to the game as part of the club’s Young Fan Ticket Initiative, which aims to give more local and young supporters the chance to experience a matchday at Anfield.

Liam Muscart, aged 10, who attends New Park Primary School, said: “It was an amazing experience to meet Ian and watch the game from a box. I really enjoyed the day.”

New Park Primary School head teacher, Mrs Hutchings, said: “We are delighted to be a part of the club’s Young Fan Ticket Initiative. It acts as a great incentive for our pupils as we allocate the tickets as a reward for good behaviour and attitude.”

Pinehurst Primary School pupil Earl McArthur, aged nine, said: “It was boss, I had such a cool day, I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Mia Graham, aged 10, a pupil at St Margaret’s Anfield CE Primary School, said: “I really enjoyed the whole experience, being in the box, meeting Ian Rush, watching the game, the food and drink, everything really. I’ll definitely never forget it.”
