Reds lose first European final

A year after the infamous European Cup semi-final defeat against Inter Milan in the San Siro, Bill Shankly finally realised his dream of leading Liverpool to a major European final.

It may not have been the continent's premier competition, but progress in the Cup Winners' Cup came about as a result of the club's first ever FA Cup success and the Reds would still go head-to-head with some of Europe's top clubs en route to the final at Hampden Park.
