MatchWest Ham United v Liverpool: Team news

Liverpool visit London Stadium on Wednesday night and, speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning, the manager revealed Konate’s fitness is being monitored ahead of the trip to the capital.

Klopp was asked for an update on the condition of his squad and replied: “We have to see. We use the full time until tomorrow – well, we leave today so the decision we have to make today.

“Ibou, we need to see how it is with him but in the moment I am rather positive but that doesn’t mean a lot. From possible starters I think that’s it.”

Naby Keita is close to returning from a muscle injury, but the No.8 will not feature in the Premier League clash with the Hammers.

“If everything goes well I think he could be in partial training today [Tuesday]. That’s what I heard yesterday,” Klopp said.

“He was not in team training yet but he could do warming up, if we do rondos he could do that and then he has again to do his own programme. So it means, yes, [he is] much closer, much, much closer.”

A muscle problem also kept Roberto Firmino out of last weekend’s win over Nottingham Forest and he will again be missing on Wednesday.

The boss remains optimistic the Brazil international will play for Liverpool again before he leaves the club in the summer, though.

Klopp stated: “We are still thinking that… this week, no, I hope that at the end of the week he is closer, but so far he was not in team training, so that’s it.”

Fabinho is one caution away from incurring a two-match ban in the Premier League.

West Ham boss David Moyes, meanwhile, reported no new injury concerns during his media briefing. Striker Gianluca Scamacca (knee) has missed his side’s last seven games.
