NewsTakumi Minamino shares memories on return to 'very special' Anfield
The Japan international spent two-and-a-half years with the Reds after joining the club in January 2020.
During that time, he made 55 appearances and scored 14 goals, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
He then departed to join Monaco, whom he remains with, though injury prevented him from participating as his current team beat his former side 3-2 in the pre-season meeting at Anfield.
“I’m very happy to be back here. For me, this is a very special place,” Minamino told Liverpoolfc.com during a chat ahead of the match.
“I have a lot of special memories. But for me, one of the best memories was against Leicester City, the cup game [in December 2021].
“We were losing 2-3 and I scored the equalising goal. A cross from [James] Milner and I scored. And we won on penalties.
“That game, for me, is one of the best memories, with the fans.”
Minamino continued: “It was also an amazing moment [to be at the club].
“To win the title, especially the Premier League, was my dream when I was young. Still I remember that moment – it was a special moment for me.”
