NewsLFC injury update: Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota

The centre-back had to be withdrawn in the 69th minute of the 4-3 victory at Anfield after suffering an issue that is ‘not good’.

Matip is definitely set for a spell on the sidelines, Jürgen Klopp confirmed at his pre-Sheffield United press conference.

Asked if he knows how long the No.32 is likely to be out for, Klopp said: “No, I don’t know exactly but it doesn’t look good, that’s something we can say.

“The scan is not done yet so we don’t know exactly, but it’s not great. From the first second it was clear, we spoke to him and said, ‘No, that’s not good.’

“But how long, I don’t know.”

Klopp also discussed the recoveries of Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota, who each remain out of action after injuries against Manchester City last month.

“He was running yesterday outside – on his birthday,” the boss said of Jota. “And everything goes in the right direction, but nobody told me he will be back in team training today. No, there is still some time.

“And with Ali the same. Obviously Ali is closer but not available for tomorrow definitely.”
