Champions LeagueGalatasaray v Liverpool: Team news

Ekitike, who missed the weekend's defeat at Crystal Palace in the Premier League due to suspension, is part of the Reds' 21-man squad in Istanbul for Tuesday night's game.

Chiesa has replaced the injured Giovanni Leoni in the club's list of players eligible for the league phase, though is not in Turkiye for matchday two because of a knock.

Arne Slot explained on Monday evening: "He got a little niggle, I think it is the word you use here in England, in the last game against Palace.

"He tried it today, he was on the pitch in the beginning but he couldn't end the session, so we decided not to take him because in a few days it's Chelsea again."

Ekitike returns to the fold looking to build on the impressive start to his Liverpool career, having scored five goals in eight outings since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in July.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of the Galatasaray meeting, the Frenchman was asked about the potential of playing alongside fellow forward Alexander Isak, who featured for 84 minutes against Palace.

"I've been playing in a two-striker composition, one striker, so I can do a lot of things," Ekitike said. "If we have to play together, I can do that."

In terms of Galatasaray's striking options, they were assessing the fitness of Victor Osimhen after he made a return from an ankle injury in their last match.

The Nigerian came on for the closing stages of his side's 1-0 win away at Alanyaspor on Friday evening.

Manager Okan Buruk said at his pre-match press conference: "Victor continued training. We will see how he was in the last training session today.

"It is positive that he played 10 minutes in the last match and continued training. We will look at his condition today and make a decision."

Mauro Icardi has been leading the line for the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions in Osimhen's absence and netted five goals in seven appearances so far this season.

Their summer business included the additions of former Manchester City duo Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane.

"We have been through a transitional period but now Galatasaray need to show our identity and we will do that," Buruk said.

"This is my fourth year and this will be one of the toughest games we have played. They are a very important, successful team with a successful coach. We want to go out onto the pitch with our own plans and do our best."
