ExplainedThe community impact of LFC Foundation charity matches

Liverpool FC Legends will host their Manchester United counterparts at Anfield on Saturday in a 3pm BST kick-off that represents the second and concluding leg of their Legends of the North contest.

The Reds lead 3-1 from the Old Trafford meeting in May and will aim to wrap up victory with a team managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish and featuring the likes of Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia, Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Skrtel.

It is another instalment of a special occasion that has proven immensely popular, hugely entertaining and – above all – significantly beneficial.

To date, LFC Foundation legends charity matches – which have included games against Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Barcelona – have raised a total of £4.5 million.

Those funds have not only supported the great work of official club charity LFC Foundation and its community programmes, but a number of other fantastic local charities in the Liverpool City Region over the years.

A £225,000 donation was made to Alder Hey Children’s Charity for its hospital’s new research, innovation and education facility.

The Owen McVeigh Foundation used a £36,000 donation to fully refurbish a holiday lodge it owns in the Lake District, which can be used free of charge by children undergoing treatment and their families, as well as bereaved families.

Zoe’s Place, which provides palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, received a £50,000 donation, and £100,000 was made available to local charities in Merseyside via the LFC Foundation Community Fund.

One hundred per cent of the proceeds raised from the latest game will again support LFC Foundation’s community programmes, as well as Forever Reds, Cash for Kids and IntoUniversity.

Tickets for Saturday’s legends charity match – brought to you in association with Forever Reds – are still available to purchase online here, while premium and hospitality tickets can be purchased here.

LFC would like to thank fans for their ongoing and generous support of LFC Foundation and its charity fixtures, and we look forward to welcoming you to Anfield this weekend.
