Classic Match10 years ago today: 'The most ridiculous game of football you will ever see'
But, at lunchtime on January 23, 2016, one of the most incredible games of the Klopp era - and an all-time Premier League classic - was played out.
Norwich City 4-5 Liverpool.
When the Reds had fallen 3-1 down early in the second half, it was already going to need something special to secure a result in East Anglia.
It's safe to say the travelling Kop got even more than they hoped for.
Norwich and Liverpool fans were no stranger to goalfests when their teams faced off.
Between September 2012 and April 2014, Brendan Rodgers' Reds had beaten the Canaries 5-2, 5-0, 5-1 and 3-2.
And this particular contest followed a similar path, with just a handful of games in Premier League history ever seeing the ball hit the net more often.
The visitors actually took the lead in the 18th minute as James Milner played Roberto Firmino through and the Brazilian - in his debut season at the Reds - guided a left-footed strike beyond goalkeeper Declan Rudd.

Joy was short-lived, however. Dieumerci Mbokani equalised with a back-heel finish in the box and Steven Naismith then crashed in a low drive to hand the home side a 2-1 advantage at the interval.
The hosts' lead - and the Reds' mountain to climb - increased when Wes Hoolahan converted a penalty eight minutes into the second half for 3-1.
With Klopp bristling on the touchline, Liverpool began the fightback.
Moments later, Nathaniel Clyne's cushioned cross from the right side was flicked on by Firmino for a darting Jordan Henderson to get Liverpool back in the game.
Their resurgence was supplemented from the bench by the introduction of Adam Lallana.
And a counter-attack in the 63rd minute saw Lallana pick out Firmino, who dinked it over the 'keeper for his second of the match and a vital equaliser.
But things were far from over.
Norwich captain Russell Martin misjudged a back-pass and Milner pounced, moving through on goal and making no mistake with his finish.
Liverpool must have begun to believe three points were safe as the clock ticked into the 92nd minute and their 4-3 lead remained intact.
But Sebastien Bassong summoned a left-footed blast from outside the box past Simon Mignolet to haul the home team back level and elate the crowd.
Yet somehow, there was a last - decisive - dose of drama still in the script.
A cross from Emre Can on the left flank caused pinball in the Canaries' penalty area, before a defensive header rolled out toward Lallana at the edge.
The midfielder's thudded effort into the ground sent the ball bouncing into the top right corner of the Norwich goal.
Unbelievable.
"The most ridiculous game of football that you will ever see," declared LFCTV commentator John Bradley in an attempt to articulate the chaos.
Shirt removed, Lallana headed straight for Klopp and his teammates, setting off such pandemonium on the touchline that the boss' glasses were smashed in their celebratory melee.
"I have a second pair of glasses, but I can't find them," quipped Klopp later. "It's hard to find glasses without glasses."
We're sure it was worth it, though.
An extraordinary game and an extraordinary ending.
