MatchWest Ham United v Liverpool: Team news

Illness ruled Alisson out of the midweek Champions League loss against PSV Eindhoven, while Wirtz has missed the Reds' last two matches due to a muscle issue.

Head coach Arne Slot gave updates on both when he previewed the trip to London at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

"Ali trained again with the team today, so we hope and expect him to be available at the weekend," he said.

"Florian will have his final day of rehab tomorrow. So, if that all goes well, he could train with the team on Saturday."

Hugo Ekitike is a doubt, though the back complaint that necessitated his withdrawal in the second half versus PSV is anticipated to be short term.

"They don't expect that it has to be a big issue, but the games come fast so let's see for the weekend," Slot said of the No.22.

The reigning champions make the journey to the capital seeking to halt a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Slot was asked if he is likely to deploy changes to his line-up in response.

"You consider everything," said the Dutchman. "Until now, I have decided differently.

"But they train with us every single day and they can prove themselves in those moments.

"Of course, I consider [that] but I cannot tell you what the end product of that consideration is for Sunday yet."

The Liverpool boss also confirmed defender Joe Gomez is 'close' to featuring in match action, including from the start.

"He could have been involved [on Wednesday] as well in terms of minutes," said Slot. "But when we are 2-1 or 3-1 down, I tend to make offensive substitutions.

"And for him to start a game is also definitely a possibility."

West Ham, meanwhile, could welcome Konstantinos Mavropanos and Crysencio Summerville back from injury.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was asked about the duo during his pre-match press conference on Friday and replied: "Both of them are getting better, still tomorrow to assess."

Lucas Paqueta is available after serving a one-match suspension.

Oliver Scarles has missed the Hammers' last three Premier League games after undergoing surgery on a fractured collarbone, while Lukasz Fabianski is a long-term absentee.

Nuno was also quizzed on what he is expecting from Slot and Liverpool in terms of team selection and said: "We cannot predict the starting XI.

"What we know, no matter who is going to start, is that we are going to face a tough opponent… the squad of Liverpool has immense quality all over the place, over all positions."
