Although we felt disappointed, and I think it’s good to feel disappointed, that we couldn’t win the game, I was really pleased with our performance against Tottenham.
I think it shows the levels that we have now taken our performances to at the start of this season. To still be unbeaten is important for us and I do think the players deserve a lot of credit for the passion, desire and quality they are showing.
I felt we really took the game to Tottenham and we weren’t obstructed when we conceded a rather unfortunate goal.
I felt we had the lion’s share of the first half and thought in the second we were exceptional in the sense of being relentless to try to get the goals that we needed.
Aurélie [Csillag] scored a fantastic equaliser. It was a great move down the right side and a world-class cross from Fuka [Nagano] for Aurélie to get across the defender and score.
When a substitute comes onto the pitch it’s important that they are ready and Aurélie helped us, Alice [Bergstrom] helped us, and Marie [Höbinger] can unlock defences and give us that little bit of magic.
It was us in the ascendancy from then on and we just had a lot of actions where we need to improve that final decision slightly.
I felt our levels were very good in many ways and if there is a slight criticism it’s just that final pass and final shot.
The girls worked so hard, we looked really fit and sharp and put Tottenham under a lot of pressure.
There were some top individual performances as well. Alejandra [Bernabe] played to a high level at left-back, Natalia Ramos was good on her first start for us in midfield and Fisky [Grace Fisk], as usual, was very good.
The signs are really good from this team and we look forward to our next challenge, which is a tough away game at Manchester City on Friday night.
We will be full of energy, full of determination and desire, and that never changes. We want to be really aggressive with and without the ball. That has got to be our way.
I know our supporters will be with us as always and they really embraced what we were trying to do against Tottenham. We really felt their support and I hope they are excited about what is to come and where this team can go this season.
Last week, we remembered one of our own with the unveiling of permanent memorials to Matt Beard at the AXA Melwood Training Centre and Anfield.
They were very moving occasions and it’s hard to believe it has been a year since his sad passing. These are special tributes to his memory and what he meant to all of us.
Matt will never be forgotten.
