MatchThe opposition lowdown: Brentford

Season so far

The Bees sat 13th in the table after the opening eight rounds of matches.

Their 10 points have been gained from three wins and one draw, with four defeats.

One of those victories came last time out - goals late in either half from Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen securing a 2-0 result at West Ham United on Monday night.

Familiar faces

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a move directly to Brentford from the Reds - for whom he made 67 appearances - during the summer.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also switched to the Gtech Community Stadium on his return to the Premier League.

Keith Andrews' squad includes more Anfield alumni, too, in Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg.

Key players

Only Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo had scored more in the league than Brentford's Thiago ahead of this weekend's matches.

He has five strikes to his name so far.

Henderson leads the way for assists at the club with two, meanwhile.

Kelleher has made 20 saves, including one from a penalty.

Previous meetings

The Reds did a 2-0 double over Brentford in the Premier League last season.

Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured the points at Anfield in August.

Then, on a vital day en route to the championship, Darwin Nunez scored twice in stoppage time in the capital in January.

Team news

Aaron Hickey will not yet be available for the Bees as he returns to full training this weekend.

But Paris Maghoma and Gustavo Nunes are in contention to face Liverpool having featured for Brentford's B team earlier this week.

Antoni Milambo is sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

What they said

Brentford head coach Andrews

"The performance levels of so many aspects on Monday were very pleasing.

"There's always things you can tweak. Naturally you can become a little bit more demanding, and fine-tune, when everybody is in a good place. We need to build on that.

"We have to manage the game. We are well aware of the strengths that [Liverpool] have. We'll see what their teamsheet brings tomorrow evening.

"We'll be prepared for it and are really looking forward to it."

Pre-match stats

  • Brentford have lost only two of their last eight Premier League home games (four wins, two draws).

  • The Bees have the second-lowest average possession figure this term: exactly 40 per cent.
  • Michael Kayode created seven chances for Brentford against West Ham, the joint-most by a player in a Premier League match this season.
