Luke Chambers was left to reflect on a dream come true after making his first Liverpool start in the 5-1 win over Toulouse.

The 19-year-old was selected by Jürgen Klopp as the Reds made it three wins from three in Europa League Group E, courtesy of a vibrant attacking performance.

For the Preston-born defender, who has been with the club since the age of six, it was another significant milestone, having made his senior debut as a late substitute against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup last month.

“I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was six years old,” Chambers told Liverpoolfc.com after the game.

“I’ve come through the ranks of the Academy, and as a boy growing up, going through the Academy, that’s your dream [so] it feels really good!”

Chambers was one of three teenagers used on the night by the Reds, with Calum Scanlon and James McConnell both coming on to make their professional debuts as second-half substitutes.

“[I found out I was playing] yesterday in training,” Chambers said. “I went home and it didn’t really sink in at first, then this morning it kind of came to a bit of reality.”

He added: “[The manager] just said to enjoy it. He said there was no pressure, just go out and play how I usually play.

“As a young player, that’s what you strive for, opportunities. I’m hungry for more, so hopefully more will come.”

Reflecting on the game itself, which Liverpool won courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota, Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah, Chambers was enthused.

“We take this competition really seriously, so it’s all that we could have asked for,” he said. “To get a 5-1 victory was a dream. It’s amazing.”

Asked if he felt the Reds could go far in the Europa League this season, he added: “Definitely. I don’t see why not. That should be our end goal, to win it.

“And if I get more opportunities going forward then happy days.”
