The centre-back featured for the full encounter as his loan team defeated VfL Bochum 3-1 on the 20-year-old's home debut at the Veltins-Arena.
It was Schalke's first top-flight win in 483 days after they secured a return to the Bundesliga last season.
Speaking ahead of the contest, Van den Berg said: "It is important that there is a good understanding among the back four. This is helped by the fact the team gets on so well with each other. I have felt at home from the first day."
Elsewhere, Billy Koumetio was named in Austria Vienna's squad though remained on the sidelines in their 3-0 Austrian Bundesliga win over Hartberg.
Anderson Arroyo was also an unused substitute as Alaves defeated Lugo 2-1 away from home in Spain's Segunda Division.
In Poland, Jakub Ojrzynski was named on the bench as Radomiak Radom earned a 2-0 Ekstraklasa victory against Wisla Plock on home soil.
