NewsLiverpool FC legends visit Nashville children's hospital on USA pre-season tour
Alongside the club’s official mascot Mighty Red, Rush and Dowie joined children and their families for a fun-filled event at the hospital’s Seacrest Studios, where young supporters had the chance to put their questions to the pair and take part in fun, interactive games.
The session was broadcast live throughout the hospital, allowing patients who were unable to leave their rooms to watch and join in from their bedside.
After the on-stage activities, the legends and Mighty Red spent time meeting the children, chatting with families, posing for photographs, signing autographs and handing out LFC gifts.
Rush, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, said: “Days like today are what it is all about. Spending time with these amazing children and their families was really special.
“Hopefully we have been able to bring smiles to their faces and make their days that little bit brighter.”
Dowie, who lifted the Barclays Women’s Super League twice during her time with the Reds, added: “It’s been such a lovely morning. The children had some brilliant questions for us, and you could really feel the passion for Liverpool FC here in Nashville.
“It means a lot that we’ve been able to spend time with supporters and their families in this way.”
The hospital visit is the first of several community activities and events taking place during the Reds’ time in the States, including football clinics, hospital visits, and meet-and-greets with players and club legends.
The USA is home to more than 26 million Liverpool supporters - the fastest growing fan base of any Premier League team.
The Reds’ trip includes three pre-season fixtures, beginning against Sunderland at GEODIS Park in Nashville on July 25, before facing Wrexham at Yankee Stadium in New York on July 29 and Leeds United at Soldier Field in Chicago on August 2.
Tickets for all three games are still available, giving supporters the chance to see Andoni Iraola’s side in action ahead of the new campaign.
