ReviewLiverpool 3-1 Burnley: Analysis of 'magnificent' Nunez and key contributions from Elliott and Kelleher

During his regular post-match Review Show, which is now available to watch on LFCTV GO, the former Red analysed how Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table and bounced back from defeat at Arsenal.

“It was an historical occasion as it was the biggest-ever league attendance at Anfield and it was a good response to get the three points. We ran out comfortable winners in the end,” said Mellor.

“Darwin was magnificent and he was a constant threat. He deserved his goal, it was a fantastic header.

“Nunez had 37 sprints, which was the most by a Liverpool player in the Premier League this season, a top performance.

“His work-rate really catches the eye, he puts a proper shift in and he was also willing to get back and help defensively.”

Mellor also assessed the contributions of Elliott, who came off the bench to play a major role in the two decisive goals that gave the Reds all three points, and goalkeeper Kelleher.

“Harvey has had to be patient but he always shows a great attitude and a willingness to contribute,” he added.

“He has a lovely awareness and he produced two great passes for the goal. He got one assist according to Opta but really he got two as they take the first one off him because of a slight deflection. We know he got two!

“Caoimhin Kelleher also deserves a mention as he made two big saves at big moments in the game for us, although the one in the second half would have been disallowed by VAR because of a handball by [David Datro] Fofana.”
