ClubLFC hosts interfaith community celebration for Diwali

The interfaith event brought more than 70 people together for a special evening honouring the Festival of Lights.

The club worked alongside BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir when planning the event, which included educational messages on Diwali, a peace ceremony and celebratory musical performances.

A 'Faith in Football' panel formed a key part of the event, with contributions from Rishi Jain, the club's director of impact, Roopa Vyas, chief operating officer of Her Game Too, and Harinder Singh, founder of cultuRED - LFC's multifaith supporters' group. The discussion explored the role of faith, representation and community within football.

Speaking at the event, Jain said: "It was a privilege to welcome so many people to Anfield for our first Diwali celebration, which included supporters, key stakeholders and many new faces from across the Hindu community.

"Through Red Together, we are committed to creating inclusive spaces that reflect and respect the traditions of the diverse communities across the Liverpool City Region and beyond, and this event is another important step in that journey."

As part of Red Together - the club's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion - this event sits within a wider programme of interfaith activity delivered throughout the year, including previously held iftar gatherings during Ramadan.
