Pre-season tourLFC Foundation hosts Special Olympics event in Hong Kong

More than 30 adults with a range of impairments were invited to the Tseung Kwan O Football Training Centre to celebrate the spirit of inclusion through sport and enjoy football sessions.

LFC chief executive officer Billy Hogan and chief commercial officer Ben Latty were in attendance to show their support, alongside former Reds players Jerzy Dudek, Niamh Fahey, Sami Hyypia and Lucas Leiva.

The event was also attended by LFC International Academy and more than 100 children were able to enjoy the activities.

LFC Foundation and Special Olympics have worked together on a number of occasions previously, including during pre-season tours to Singapore and the USA.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with disabilities, providing opportunities to develop physical fitness and enjoy taking part in sport.

Matt Parish, LFC Foundation chief executive officer, said: “When the club goes on pre-season tour we are delighted to be able to be a part of that and to help make a positive impact in the local community.

“Working with organisations like Special Olympics is an important part of that and we are happy to have been able to work with them again this year to promote inclusion and create lasting memories with the people and places we visit.”

Ex-Liverpool captain Hyypia added: “We know that football has the power to bring people together and that was clear to see today.

“It was a special day for everyone involved and events like this just highlight the importance of the work of the LFC Foundation, not only in Liverpool but internationally.”
