ClubLFC becomes first football club to receive global recognition for food sustainability
Delivered by The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), the Food Made Good Standard is a globally recognised certification that assesses organisations across three pillars: Sourcing, Society and Environment.
The achievement reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to delivering a more sustainable food experience through its sustainability strategy, The Red Way, which is focused on building a better future for our people, planet and communities.
The club is working hard towards its goal of recycling 100 per cent of food waste by 2030. Currently, surplus matchday food is redistributed, providing 1,200 meals each week to local communities across Merseyside.
Across LFC sites, including Anfield, the AXA Training Centre and the Academy, it has introduced a wide range of initiatives supporting more sustainable food systems.
These include on-site allotments and gardens to help promote seasonal produce and strengthen the connection between players, staff and club partners to sustainable food practices.
Further initiatives include the removal of single-use plastics such as straws and cutlery at Anfield, the rollout of reusable cup and food-tray schemes and fan-facing recycling programmes – with more than one million plastic bottles collected in recent seasons.
The club is also supporting local organisations and social enterprises, while its ongoing work with LFC Foundation continues to create meaningful community impact.
To date, 18 young people have been supported into roles within the club’s hospitality operations through targeted employability programmes.
