NewsLFC and The Red Way to improve how food is sourced, prepared and delivered

This collaboration brings together the extensive work already happening across LFC and provides a clear framework through The SRA's Food Made Good Standard, to continue improving across three key pillars: sourcing, society and environment. The Food Made Good Standard is the world's leading sustainability certification designed for food service businesses of all shapes and sizes.

Across the club, significant progress has already been made through The Red Way to improve how food is sourced, prepared and delivered. This includes working with suppliers who meet higher environmental and welfare standards, reducing waste across kitchens and concourses, increasing the use of plant-forward dishes, ensuring seafood is responsibly sourced, and supporting local producers.

The club has removed disposable food containers, expanded recycling processes, and continues to donate surplus food to foodbanks and community pantries. The onsite allotments also produce fresh ingredients for use in kitchens and for distribution within the local community.

The SRA framework will support the club in bringing this work together across all food sites. LFC continues to work towards certification under The SRA's Food Made Good Standard across all relevant operations, providing a clear and measurable approach to sustainable food practices.

In 2024, more than half of the club's supply partners had carbon reduction or net-zero targets, and onsite allotments produced nearly 500kg of fresh food for use in club kitchens and the community. The collaboration with The SRA supports continued development in this area.

Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC, said: "Working with The SRA marks another important step in the club's ongoing sustainability journey and reflects the ambition behind The Red Way. Food brings together people, planet and community - three pillars that shape this work.

"By rethinking how food is produced, prepared and shared across the club, the aim is to reduce impact while contributing to a fairer and more sustainable food system."

Established in 2021, The Red Way sets out LFC's commitment to building a better future for people, planet and communities. It aligns with all 17 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is embedded across all areas of the club.
