NewsLewis Koumas a 'real future player' for Wales - Craig Bellamy

Koumas scored his first goal at senior international level on the occasion of his 11th cap on Tuesday night.

The forward was on target with a 93rd-minute header to salvage a 1-1 draw for Wales in a friendly against Ghana in Cardiff.

“I see him as a real future player for Wales who’s going to have a big say,” said Wales head coach and former Red Bellamy. “I’m delighted for him.”

Koumas, who advanced through the LFC Academy to debut under Jürgen Klopp in February 2024, completed the past club campaign at Hull City as they were promoted from the Championship play-offs.

Versatile to play across the attacking positions, Bellamy intends to mould him as a centre-forward when representing his country.

“[He is a] nine because we don’t really have any nines coming through and we do have a lot of wingers, brilliant wingers,” he said.

“He could definitely be a huge asset for us on the wing but, due to our lack of nines coming through the system, we’ve used him a lot in training that way and he’s really been electric.

“There’s a lot to like about Koumy. He’s such a young player and I’m over the moon he got his goal because he’s deserved it.”
