Jürgen Klopp has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for January.

The Liverpool boss was recognised after his side recorded three wins from their three top-flight matches in the month, scoring four goals on each occasion.

The Reds started 2024 with a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on New Year’s Day, then beat AFC Bournemouth 4-0 and Chelsea 4-1 to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table.

Klopp saw off competition from Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Rob Edwards of Luton Town and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to land the award.

It is the 10th time in his Liverpool career Klopp has claimed Manager of the Month.

“December was already [tough] because it was game after game after game, and then more like limping into January, you never know,” Klopp said.

“Obviously in that moment Wataru [Endo] and Mo [Salah] left [to international duty], so the boys did incredibly well. We had great results, went through to the [Carabao Cup] final, played exceptional FA Cup games. So it was a really good month, surprisingly good, to be honest.

We are Manager of the Month – great!”

He added: “You know how influential all the guys around me are. I’m the face of all these kinds of things. I won a few over the years but I’m pretty sure all of my coaches got one to take it home.

“So we are Manager of the Month, we know that. If that happens – it’s pretty rare – but if that happens you know it’s a good month and a lot of good work behind. So, thank you, guys, again.”

Klopp was also asked if he had a favourite of Liverpool’s three emphatic Premier League victories over the course of January.

“Chelsea was really good, but Newcastle was good as well, to be honest,” he replied. “Bournemouth was OK; it was a different game, it was a good game. But Chelsea was standout.

“That was really… the way I like football, it came pretty close to that. And against a good opponent, how everybody sees then. It’s always like this, when we play really well and you think ‘Ah, Chelsea was not good’ or whatever and then a week later, they play their best football.

“It was footballing-wise a really good month, we found a way for us how to deal with the different challenges of different opponents and went through it, so all good, nothing to complain really.”
