NewsDiogo Jota named Premier League Player of the Month for January
Diogo Jota has won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for January.
The Liverpool forward receives the individual prize for the first time in his career after a stellar month in which he helped the Reds win three out of three in the top flight.
“It was a great month for me, for the team and I’m just happy to win this award for the first time,” the No.20 reacted. “It’s always nice.
“The team won – that was most important – but I did a big contribution and I was very happy because I came from [an] injury, so that was special for me to get it done straight away.
“Things are clicking and you need to take full advantage of that because we all know how it works – sometimes you can’t stop scoring and sometimes it seems like you can’t score.
“I just want to take the most out of these moments that I’m having and help the team.”
Having provided an assist as a substitute in the 4-2 victory over Newcastle United, Jota scored twice and set up another during the 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth.
And the Portuguese’s outstanding form continued when he got the scoring under way with a dribble and finish as Chelsea were defeated 4-1 at Anfield.
Jota saw off competition from teammate Conor Bradley, as well as Elijah Adebayo (Luton Town), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal) and Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur) to win.
