In the final round of Asian qualifying for the 2024 Olympics, Fuka Nagano started and played 70 minutes for Japan as they drew 0-0 in the first leg of their tie versus Korea DPR.
The other head-to-head saw Australia – for whom Teagan Micah was an unused substitute – establish a 3-0 aggregate lead over Uzbekistan.
Second legs are scheduled for February 28.
Elsewhere, Jenna Clark was a second-half substitute for Scotland as they beat the Philippines 2-0 to advance at the Pinatar Cup in Spain.
They will now contest a Tuesday final against Emma Koivisto’s Finland, who defeated Slovenia 1-0 with the Reds right-back on the bench.
Mia Enderby was also an unused substitute for England U19s as they lost 3-2 against France at the La Nucia tournament.
