Round-upInternationals: Three Reds part of World Cup qualifying wins on Friday
Hugo Ekitike made his first senior start for France as they defeated Azerbaijan 3-0.
The forward claimed an assist with a contributing touch to Kylian Mbappe’s run and finish to open the scoring, and later struck the post.
Ekitike was withdrawn with 10 minutes to go, while Ibrahima Konate was an unused substitute for Les Bleus.
Florian Wirtz played the whole match for Germany as they eased to a 4-0 win over 10-man Luxembourg. He was denied by the woodwork, too, seeing a second-half free-kick strike the post.
In the same group, Conor Bradley’s Northern Ireland prevailed 2-0 at home to Slovakia. The Reds full-back captained his country and featured for all but the final moments of stoppage time.
Alexander Isak also wore the armband and played throughout Sweden’s 2-0 loss against Switzerland, himself hitting the post in the first half.
In a friendly played in Miami overnight, Alexis Mac Allister came on for the last 12 minutes for Argentina, who beat Venezuela 1-0.
At U21 level, goalkeeper Armin Pecsi played the whole game for Hungary as they drew 3-3 against Ukraine in European Championship qualifying.
And in the same preliminaries, Trent Kone-Doherty was introduced from the bench in the second half for the Republic of Ireland in a 2-2 draw with Slovakia.
