Ben Doak scored and Kostas Tsimikas provided an assist as seven senior Liverpool players featured in Friday’s international fixtures.

Doak helped Scotland U21s defeat their Hungary counterparts 3-1 in U21 European Championship qualifying. The forward delivered his side’s third goal of the evening by winning a penalty that he stepped up to coolly stroke home.

Meanwhile, Tsimikas claimed an assist for Greece with a brilliant cross for the opening goal of a 2-0 win at the Republic of Ireland in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Elsewhere in the preliminaries, Ibrahima Konate’s France claimed a 2-1 victory over Virgil van Dijk’s Netherlands in Amsterdam that secured their place at next year’s final tournament. Both Reds centre-backs played the full game.

And Diogo Jota was a late introduction from the bench as Portugal also booked their spot at Euro 2024 with a 3-2 home win against Slovakia.

Trent Alexander-Arnold started England’s friendly versus Australia and went on to clock up 90 minutes as a second-half Ollie Watkins effort separated the sides at Wembley.

He played a significant part in the winning goal, too, with his dangerous delivery into the area from deep sent back across the box by Jack Grealish for Watkins to convert.

Earlier in the day, Wataru Endo featured for just over an hour for Japan as they chalked up a 4-1 friendly victory against Canada in Niigata.
