NewsHarvey Elliott named Player of the Tournament at U21 Euros
The Liverpool midfielder was a leading light for England throughout the competition in Slovakia as they successfully defended the trophy, beating Germany 3-2 after extra-time in Saturday’s final.
Elliott started all six matches for the Young Lions in this edition and produced five goals, including one in the quarter-final, two in the semi-final and then the opener for Lee Carsley’s team against the Germans.
He is now a two-time winner of the U21 Euros having also been part of the England squad that lifted the trophy in 2023.
“Without doubt England’s most effective player from the first game onwards,” UEFA’s Technical Observer Group said in its assessment of Elliott.
“Tactically, he showed incredible awareness to be able to find the spaces to receive passes in dangerous positions, and then the ability to make a difference, inclusive of creating and scoring some of his team’s most crucial goals in their winning campaign.
“He also displayed excellent leadership qualities with a great work ethic and team behaviours. A big player for the big stage.”
