ReactionDominik Szoboszlai on FA Cup progress: 'We showed we need the whole squad'

The Reds secured passage into the fourth round of the competition thanks to a 4-1 win versus League One opposition at Anfield.

Szoboszlai opened the scoring on the night for Arne Slot's men, with the head coach making six changes to his starting line-up.

Jeremie Frimpong doubled the advantage in the first half, before Szoboszlai's error inside his own area led to a goal for former Liverpool Academy product Adam Phillips.

However, substitutes Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike rounded out the scoring in the second period, setting up a date with Brighton & Hove Albion in the next stage.

"We wanted to show that we take it [the FA Cup] seriously," Szoboszlai told TNT Sports post-match. "I think we always take it seriously [usually], but we showed again today that we need the whole squad.

"The new guys came in who didn't play maybe as much as the others, but again they also showed quality. We need everyone."

Asked about the development of the team in general, he added: "I think we need a little bit more time together to get to know each other better. From the summer on we developed a lot and all the new guys settled in very well I think - but you need to ask them first of all. [I'm] happy for Flo and Hugo [tonight] and all of the guys.

"Of course [it was nice to win]. It was also for the fans also and now we move on."

Szoboszlai produced a clinical finish from outside the box to begin the scoring for the Reds on the night, though was also at fault for the visitors' effort.

On both goals, he added: "Yeah, finally. I got to my position, and I didn't really think much just to shoot, so I just take the chance to shoot and finally I hit it good.

"[I'm also] sorry for the team again [for his error leading to Barnsley's goal]. I made it hard for us with an easy mistake I would say. But football moves on and we take the next round."
