NewsAmber Whiteley to take up additional role with Republic of Ireland

Whiteley will join the staff of new Republic of Ireland women’s national team head coach Carla Ward as they prepare for upcoming games in the UEFA Nations League.

She will work as an assistant coach in Ward’s support staff for matches against Greece, Slovenia and Türkiye, starting against the latter at Tallaght Stadium on Friday February 21.

Whiteley currently works as assistant manager to Matt Beard alongside Scott Rogers and will continue in her role with the Reds.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Ireland women’s national team and to be part of Carla’s backroom staff,” she said.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity to work with an exciting group of players as they head into the UEFA Nations League. I am grateful to Liverpool for allowing me the opportunity to work with Ireland and to further my own development.”

Among those Whiteley is likely to be working with is Liverpool striker Leanne Kiernan, a regular in the Republic of Ireland international squad.

Both were at Rugby Borough yesterday as the Reds secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 2-0 win.

Whiteley has previously served as interim manager for the Reds during the second half of the 2020-21 season and has previous international experience in a technical role with England U18s.
