The Reds have won 19 of their previous 33 opening matches of a Premier League season, drawing 10 and losing only four.

In those fixtures, Liverpool have scored 61 goals and conceded 35 times.

They have won each of their last five home Premier League openers and are unbeaten in their last seven such occasions, since a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea in August 2003.

Overall, the Reds are unbeaten in each of their last 12 Premier League opening games (nine wins, three draws), scoring 31 goals in that time.

This is just the second time Liverpool’s opening Premier League match will take place on a Friday, after a 4-1 home win over Norwich City in 2019-20. They went on to lift the title in that campaign.

Jamie Carragher (15) has featured in the most Premier League openers for the club, ahead of former captains Steven Gerrard (12) and Jordan Henderson (10).

Mohamed Salah is the club’s leading opening-day scorer in the Premier League era with nine goals. Michael Owen is second with five, while Robbie Fowler and Sadio Mane each provided four.

If Salah scores in the game against Bournemouth he will become the first player in Premier League history to score 10 goals on matchday one.

The Egyptian also boasts the most assists in Premier League openers for the Reds, with his tally of five clear of Roberto Firmino on three.

Virgil van Dijk has scored twice on the opening day since joining Liverpool in 2018.
