LFC International Academy (LFC IA) hosted its sixth annual Coach Convention in Liverpool in March with representatives from LFC IAs around the world in attendance.

The event brings senior International Academy coaches from around the world up-to-date with the latest LFC coaching updates and immerses them in LFC content across all of the Club’s main sites.

During the event, sessions were held across three of the club’s iconic venues; Anfield Stadium, AXA Melwood Training Ground and AXA Training Centre. Coaches arriving in town ahead of the event attended LFC Women’s superb win over Manchester United at Anfield, which set the tone for a great event.

Day one kicked off with LFC legend Steve McMahon welcoming the delegates to the convention, speaking on his time as a player for the club and about his pathway into coaching.

A packed day one also saw presentations across several key subject areas, including the launch of the 2025/26 Coaching Curriculum while Mighty Red also popped into welcome delegates to Anfield.

After an LFC Stadium tour and trip to the LFC Museum rounded off day one, the second day was held at AXA Melwood Training Ground, with Reds’ Legend Sammy Lee welcoming every single delegate personally before hosting an engrossing Q&A about his coaching career.

On-pitch practical sessions formed a key part of the itinerary as LFC coaches demonstrated sessions and allowed delegates to create their own, while there was also opportunity for a special presentation by Russ Fraser, General Manager of LFC Women, and a Q&A with Amber Whiteley, Interim First Team Manager of LFC Women.

Day Two was split across both the Academy and the AXA Training Centre, with tours, key presentations from club staff forming another busy day of content, before our LFC IA coaches observed several Academy training sessions in the early.

It was back to the Academy on Thursday for more on-pitch delivery, while former LFC stars Chris Kirkland, Stephen Wright and Natasha Dowie all stopped by to meet and talk to coaches.

After four days of fascinating on and off-pitch sessions, the convention ended with a social evening at Anfield Stadium as delegates were treated to a special private Q&A with Reds legends Ian Rush and Mark Wright.

The week concluded with the annual LFC Legends game. This year the team played against Chelsea FC with Steven Gerrard as their captain and Peter Crouch leading the team to victory scoring two goals, resulting in a 2-0 victory to Liverpool.

Thank you to all the delegates who were able to attend the convention, it is a privilege to bring you all together and for them to share the best practice across our Academies.
