Liverpool lifted the Sheriff of London Charity Shield – a precursor to the modern-day Community Shield – on one occasion, in 1906.

First contested in 1898, the charity fixture pitted a top professional and amateur team respectively against each other at the end of the campaign.

As newly crowned First Division winners in April 1906, Tom Watson's Reds faced the amateurs of Corinthians in that year's edition.

The tie was held at Craven Cottage and Liverpool ran out 5-1 winners in front of a reported crowd of more than 20,000.

Quickfire goals from Joe Hewitt and Sam Raybould midway through the first half put the Reds in command at the interval.

Hewitt went on to complete a hat-trick during the second period, alongside a Corinthians own goal, while the amateurs got on the scoresheet with a consolation late on.

This was the only time the club participated in the game.

The shield itself was notable for being around six feet tall.
