Joe Hewitt was a forward who had several seasons at Liverpool in the first decade of the 20th century.

He was signed from Sunderland during the 1903-04 season and quickly won a place in the side, playing in the last 10 First Division fixtures but being unable to stop the club's slide into the Second Division.

Hewitt only figured nine times in 1904-05, which was not enough to win a Second Division championship medal.

But he was a key member of the team the following year when the First Division title was won for the second time in the club's history. Hewitt was easily Liverpool's top scorer in the league that year with 24 goals from his 37 appearances.

Injury kept him out for a lot of the following campaign but he returned to form towards the end of the decade, scoring 33 times from 69 games in the 1907-08 and 1908-09 seasons.

Hewitt made four more appearances in 1909-10 before being transferred to Bolton Wanderers.

He was also a member of Liverpool's staff for several years after his retirement in 1911.
