Although goalkeeper Ray Minshull was at Liverpool for four seasons, he only made 28 First Division appearances for the club, plus a further three in the FA Cup.

<p><a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/cyril-sidlow"><strong>Cyril Sidlow</strong></a> was the Reds' recognised last line of defence in the years immediately following the Second World War.</p><p>Although Sidlow was five years his senior, Minshull had to leave Anfield to find regular first-team football and signed for Southport in July 1951, going on to make 217 league appearances for them.</p>
