Years: 1946-1950
Appearances: 165
Honours: League title (1946-47)
A goalkeeper who arrived at Liverpool in the twilight of his career, Cyril Sidlow helped the Reds win the league championship in 1947.
Born in Colwyn Bay, he was a regular for Wolverhampton Wanderers before a large chunk of his professional career was lost to the Second World War.
On arriving at Anfield he played the majority of matches in the first post-war campaign, although the goalkeeping jersey was worn by three custodians during the Reds' fifth title success.
Sidlow won the battle to be No.1 and kept his place for most of the next three years, helping the club reach its first Wembley FA Cup final too. Unfortunately, there would be no fairy-tale ending as Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners.
The Welshman went on to play in the opening 10 league fixtures of 1950-51 before missing the next four (his place being taken by Charlie Ashcroft and Russell Crossley for two games each).
He made his last Liverpool appearance in a home First Division game against Newcastle United on November 4, 1950. The four goals he conceded that day effectively ended his playing career.
When the Reds team was announced for the following Saturday's visit to Huddersfield Town, it was the much younger Crossley who was wearing the No.1 jersey.
