Goalkeeper Paul Jones became the oldest player to make his debut for Liverpool since World War II at 36 years, eight months and 23 days old.

<p>That came when he played against Aston Villa at Anfield in January 2004.</p><p>An experienced top-flight stopper, Gerard Houllier brought him in on a short-term loan from Southampton because of injuries to <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/jerzy-dudek"><strong>Jerzy Dudek</strong></a> and <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/chris-kirkland"><strong>Chris Kirkland</strong></a>.</p><p>With Patrice Luzi not considered experienced enough, Jones played two games for the Reds.</p>
