Goalkeeper Paul Jones became the oldest player to make his debut for Liverpool since World War II at 36 years, eight months and 23 days old.

That came when he played against Aston Villa at Anfield in January 2004.

An experienced top-flight stopper, Gerard Houllier brought him in on a short-term loan from Southampton because of injuries to Jerzy Dudek and Chris Kirkland.

With Patrice Luzi not considered experienced enough, Jones played two games for the Reds.
