Frank Becton moved to Liverpool for quite a substantial sum of £100 in March 1895, also making his debut for the England national team in the same month.
He scored on his debut for the club against Sunderland on March 25, 1895 and finished with four goals from only five appearances by the end of that season.
A further 34 league goals came during the next three campaigns, plus another four strikes in FA Cup games.
His final figures were 42 goals from 86 matches, which included four appearances in the 'Test' fixtures played at the end of each season to decide promotion and relegation.
Becton died of tuberculosis at only 36 years old on November 6, 1909.
