David Burrows was a no-nonsense player who played regularly in the Liverpool left-back position under Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness until the start of the 1993-94 season.

The defender was still a few days short of his 20th birthday when Dalglish signed him from West Bromwich Albion in October 1988.

He went straight into the team for a home match against Coventry City just two days later and would go on to make a further 20 league appearances before the end of the season.

A year later, Burrows picked up a championship winner's medal after the Reds again reached the summit of English football with their 18th First Division title.

Burrows' opportunities were reduced after Souness replaced Dalglish as manager, but the Scot had enough confidence in the young man to select him for the 1992 FA Cup final at Wembley when the Reds comfortably beat Sunderland 2-0.

He was later transferred to West Ham United with Mike Marsh in a swap deal for Julian Dicks.
