Goalkeeper Charlie Ashcroft joined Liverpool during the Second World War.

<a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/cyril-sidlow">Cyril Sidlow</a> was first-choice custodian for the club until the 1950-51 season, meaning Ashcroft made just two appearances before then - both during 1946-47.<a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/russell-crossley">Russell Crossley</a> eventually replaced Sidlow, but Ashcroft played for the final part of the 1950-51 campaign.Ashcroft retained the No.1 spot the following season, but then had to share first-team duties with Crossley in 1952-53.He dropped out of the XI in the next campaign but managed to play 15 games in his final season, 1954-55, despite battling with fellow goalkeepers <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/dave-underwood">Dave Underwood</a> and <a href="https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/doug-rudham">Doug Rudham</a> for the position.
