Past playersCharlie Ashcroft

    • Years: 1946-1955

    • Appearances: 89

Goalkeeper Charlie Ashcroft joined Liverpool during the Second World War.

Cyril Sidlow was first-choice custodian for the club until the 1950-51 season, meaning Ashcroft made just two appearances before then - both during 1946-47.

Russell Crossley eventually replaced Sidlow, but Ashcroft played for the final part of the 1950-51 campaign.

Ashcroft retained the No.1 spot the following season, but then had to share first-team duties with Crossley in 1952-53.

He dropped out of the XI in the next campaign but managed to play 15 games in his final season, 1954-55, despite battling with fellow goalkeepers Dave Underwood and Doug Rudham for the position.
