Past playersAndy Robertson

Andy Robertson arrived at Liverpool in 2017, in a low-key transfer from Hull City. He left nine years later as a club legend.

The left-back departed Anfield upon the expiry of his contract in the summer of 2026 having lifted eight major trophies – including two Premier League titles – and made 378 appearances.

Such statistics alone would be enough to assure any player's status as an icon, but 'Robbo' claimed far more than just silverware: he also won the hearts of Liverpool supporters.

A down-to-earth native of Glasgow who fought his way to the top, Robertson's story was relatable and he remained grounded throughout his journey to stardom.

That said, it certainly helps when your graft and focus unearths a level of talent that enables an ascension to rank among Liverpool's finest full-backs and become captain of your country.

Seldom seen in the months immediately after his arrival, Robertson's patience was rewarded when he broke into Liverpool's team around the halfway point of his first season on Merseyside.

From there, he never looked back, rapidly establishing himself as a vital component in a side that would go on to win the lot.

Indeed, Robertson personified all the best qualities of Jürgen Klopp's great Liverpool team: a rich and indomitable blend of quality, spirit, energy and grit.

He allied defensive diligence with attacking output and helped to redefine what a full-back could be. At the time of his departure from Anfield, only friend and former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold could better his total of 60 Premier League assists as a defender.

Robertson was integral as Klopp's Reds reached three Champions League finals and posted three seasons worth 90+ points in the Premier League between 2018 and 2022.

He started and finished the Champions League final in Madrid in 2019, when Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-0, and then played in 36 of 38 matches as Liverpool's 30-year wait to be crowned league champions was ended in emphatic style 12 months later.

Success in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup quickly followed and Robertson then made 47 appearances during the Reds' bid for a quadruple in 2021-22.

League Cup and FA Cup winner's medals were added to his collection in that campaign, but Liverpool would finish as runners-up in both the Premier League and Champions League.

In 2024, Robertson won another League Cup and then, after Klopp's departure that summer, he was again a near-ever-present in a Premier League-winning team as Arne Slot's Reds dominated the division and secured the championship with four games to spare.

"I'll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I've put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I've not got many regrets," Robertson said, when his impending departure was announced in April 2026.

"I've grown as a man and as a person. This club will always mean the world to me, the fans will mean the world to me. It has been a hell of a journey.

"From minute one I came into this football club, I wanted to be successful. I wanted to try to bring trophies back to this football club, try to help put us back onto a place where I believe this football club belongs.

"I'm very proud that I've been a part of fantastic teams that have been able to do that."
